From a Dark Chapter to a Bright Future at DFW Celebrations
The story of DFW Celebrations begins with a history that reflects both the gravity of loss and the beauty of renewal. Nestled at the corner of 183 and Beltline, our location was once part of a bustling strip mall and home to an Oshman’s Sporting Goods store. However, it also bears the weight of a profound tragedy that forever marked the Irving community.
In December 2000, Officer Aubrey Wright Hawkins heroically responded to a suspicious activity call at this very site, unknowingly stepping into a robbery orchestrated by the notorious “Texas 7” — a group of escaped convicts whose actions shook the nation. Ambushed and outnumbered, Officer Hawkins made the ultimate sacrifice to protect others, an act of valor that inspired one of the largest manhunts in Texas history.
